This month, a new addition to the Liverpool “alternative”, “underground”, “gigs made o’love” circuit.
Our favourite citizen of the world, high vis clad “Top Joe” has struck out on his own and started a comedy night / experience featuring music, comedy and more than a splash of eccentricity, we imagine.
If you haven’t encountered Top Joe yet, he’s a darkly funny, existential character with a penchant for 80s power ballads and Buddhist ideals. He’s sweetly vulnerable and callously obstinate all at once and should never be underestimated. Quietly infamous for performing shows that focus mainly on Berroca and Sinead O’Conner, now Top Joe has roped in a couple of friends to entertain, bemuse and enlighten the people of Liverpool. Did we mention we think he’s bloody funny?
The first outing of this “Regular Gig” will feature stand up from the “aggressively funny” (That Comedy Blog) Liam Pickford and music from “underground pop polymath” (Top Joe’s Press Release) Esa Shields.
In the words of Top Joe himself: “People should not expect Donal McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. This is the comedy of life, yes, but it is not about losing your keys or what you had for your tea 10 years ago.”
